10th meeting of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators
The 10th meeting of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) was hosted by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, between 22–24 October 2019.
The meeting focused on the review of proposals for revision, replacement, reclassification, addition and deletion in the SDGs global indicator framework. Two other issues discussed at length were the integration of statistical and geospatial information for SDG monitoring and data disaggregation.
During the session on data disaggregation, Andrea Milan (Data Officer, IOM’s GMDAC), highlighted an IOM pilot study on disaggregating SDG indicators by migratory status, which was released 2018. Several agencies, including IOM, are working on data disaggregation by factors listed under SDG 17.18.
The topic will also be a focus at the second International Forum on Migration Statistics (IFMS), as it relates to measuring progress on the SDGs and other global commitments.
The meeting also welcomed the new IAEG members Afghanistan, Dominican Republic, Ireland, Japan, Kyrgyz Republic, Libya, Malawi, Malaysia, Niger and Oman.
The IAEG-SDGs is tasked with developing and implementing the global indicator framework for the Goals and Targets of the Agenda 2030.
