Susanne Melde, Research and Policy Officer, participated in a panel dedicated to the links between migration and climate change during the 2016 Science Forum South Africa in Pretoria on 8-9 December 2016.

The panel was broadcasted live as part of her daily morning show with Susanne Melde of IOM being among the discussants. Questions were asked by the audience present at the Forum, but also listeners tweeting and calling in live. A wide range of topics was discussed, including the link of migration to the ongoing drought in South Africa, the worst drought in 35 years, but also to urbanization, the lack of an international legal protection framework for people displaced by disasters across borders, effects on social cohesion, the links to land issues and the need for evidence-based policies.
