The first regional data overview of the Migration Data Portal was launched during the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Regional Forum on Sustainable Development on 22 March 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The regional data overview on migration data in Europe was presented at a side event attended by an audience comprising of politicians, diplomats and UN officials.

GMDAC’s Director, Frank Laczko, underscored the importance of the Portal, saying “at a time when migration is high on the European agenda, it is essential that everyone has access to the reliable facts and information about migration, and that we better understand the strengths and weaknesses of data on migration in Europe.”

The new page highlights past and recent trends on migration in Europe, existing data sources, and strengths and weaknesses of those data. It was authored by the Knowledge Centre on Migration and Demography (KCMD), a European Commission initiative to provide scientific evidence for EU policymaking in migration and demography related fields.
