Children on the Move: Building Migration Data Capacities

The Moroccan Ministry for Migration Affairs (MDCMREAM), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) held an international expert workshop between 20-22 March 2019 in Rabat, Morocco to improve the collection, analysis, dissemination, and use of data on children on the move through a global and cooperative approach. 

The workshop “Children on the Move: Building Migration Data Capacities” brought together more than 70 representatives from leading civil society organizations, national governments, international organizations, researchers and academics. 

The international meeting brought aimed to improve data on international migration. It identified priority areas and pilot solutions to the data challenges currently hampering activities intended to protect children on the move. 

This Expert Workshop was organized against the background of the Global Compact for Migration and the Global Compact for Refugees processes which, in the context of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, have identified as a priority the need to develop the collection, analysis and dissemination of data to improve governance and develop policies and programs specifically tailored to the need for protection of children on the move.
