Documenting Human Rights violations and mortality among migrants: Focus on the Sahel and North Africa

Columbia University and IOM organized an expert conference on “Documenting human rights violations and mortality among migrants: in the Sahel and North Africa” on 21-22 March 2019, which was hosted at the Columbia Global Center in Tunis, Tunisia. 

Children on the Move: Building Migration Data Capacities

The Moroccan Ministry for Migration Affairs (MDCMREAM), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) held an international expert workshop between 20-22 March 2019 in Rabat, Morocco to improve the collection, analysis, dissemination, and use of data on children on the move through a global and cooperative approach.  

Inaugural Berlin Migration Talk takes place

GMDAC and IOM Germany launched a joint briefing series called “Berlin Migration Talks” on 13 March 2019. The inaugural briefing focused on GMDAC’s work on assessing the impact of information campaigns in the field of migration. 

Strengthening the collection and use of migration data in the context of the 2030 Agenda

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with the Population Division, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), organized a regional workshop on “Strengthening the Collection and Use of International Migration Data in the Context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, on 5-8 February 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Platform on Disaster Displacement Advisory Committee Workshop

The third meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) took place from 4-5 February 2019 in Bogis Bossey near Geneva, Switzerland.

The Global Compact for Migration is adopted

The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) was adopted in Marrakech, Mororoco, on 10 December by 165 UN Member States.  

Eighth meeting of the IAEG-SDGs

Susanne Melde (Senior Analyst, IOM’s GMDAC) attended the 8th meeting of the Inter-Agency Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs), held in Stockholm, Sweden, on 5–8 November.

Susanne Melde took part in the 4th Pan-African Forum on Migration (PAFoM) in Djibouti City, Djibouti,  between 19–21 November.
