Laarni Alfaro
Laarni is an English Language Editor currently working from IOM’s Manila (Global) Administrative Centre in the Philippines. Her main responsibilities are editing and proofreading GMDAC publications. Along with making sure that all outputs are of high quality, she also sees to it that they adhere to the IOM House Style Manual and follow IOM’s Spelling List and the United Nations Multilingual Terminology Database (UNTERM), among other editing resources.
Since joining IOM in 2020, she has helped polish numerous migration-related reports of note – Leave No Migrant Behind: The 2030 Agenda and Data Disaggregation, How Countries Manage Migration Data: Evidence from Six Countries, the Families of Missing Migrants series, and the Migration, Environment, Disaster and Climate Change Data in the Eastern Caribbean series, to name but a few.
She has around 15 years of experience in editing both fiction and non-fiction, with short stints as a marketing copywriter, customer service representative, and event and travel coordinator. As an internal migrant herself, she is fluent in three local languages and understands more, and now that she is with IOM, Laarni looks forward to learning French and Spanish too.
