Susanne Melde took part in the 4th Pan-African Forum on Migration (PAFoM) in Djibouti City, Djibouti,  between 19–21 November. Held under the theme “Harnessing the benefits of Free Movement of persons regime for sustainable development in Africa,” this year’s Forum brought together a multiplicity of regional institutions and partners to exchange on current migration trends, patterns and reliable migration data.

Dr. Melde spoke on the panel “Addressing the Gaps in Research and Accurate Data in Migration Management in Africa,” highlighting key opportunities and challenges in developing capacities on migration data analysis.

During the discussion, Forum participants were interested in learning how to improve data collection and sharing, and raised the issue of data protection.

The Government of Djibouti hosted the three-day conference in collaboration with IOM, the AUC and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Held annually since 2014, the Pan-African Forum on Migration aims to promote and deepen inter-state dialogue and intra/inter-regional cooperation on migration across the continent.
