Welcome remarks: Dr. Götz Schmidt-Bremme (Director for Legal and Consular Issues including Migration, Ambassador for the 2017/2018 GFMD Co-Chairmanship, Federal Foreign Office/Auswärtiges Amt).

Speaker: Dr. Elisabeth G. Ferris (Senior Adviser to the UN General Assembly’s High-Level Meeting on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants; Fellow in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution, Research Professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service).

Discussant: Dr. Cyrill Jean Nunn (Director of Human Rights, International Development and Social Affiairs at the Federal Foreign Office/Auswärtiges Amt).

About: Dr. Ferris, who coordinated work on the 2016 UN-Report of the Secretary-General “In Safety and Dignity: Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants”, spoke about the challenges of coming up with better systems for responding to large movements of refugees and migrants. She presented a summary of the recommendations made in the Secretary-General’s report and an update on the negotiations process on the outcome document.

As discussant, Dr. Nunn provided further inputs; questions from the audience were then taken.
