Tue, May 19, 2020
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM (CET)
Data challenges in migration research have persisted for years. Recently, data innovation initiatives have shown promising ways to address these. The European Union’s policymakers, as well as other migration stakeholders, have the opportunity to address shortcomings by leveraging existing and innovative sources of migration data.
In this webinar, we discussed migration data challenges facing the EU and current data innovation initiatives and collaborations aimed to meet these. Presenters discussed the Global Migration Data Portal and its features, including the newly released thematic page on migration data and COVID-19 and regional pages on migration data, and provide examples of how migration stakeholders can make best use of this information for supporting policy and research and forming partnerships.
Presenters also discussed the Big Data for Migration (BD4M) Alliance and officially launched the new Data Innovation Directory, a database of projects and applications of new data sources and methodologies in the field of migration and human mobility implemented by a variety of actors to provide useful insights for policy and programming in these areas.
The recording of the webinar is available here.
