The UN Statistical Commission (UNSC) held its 50th session under the theme, 'Better data, better lives' in New York, between 5-8 March 2019.

During the 50th session, international migration and demographic statistics were discussed with a closer focus on assessment of national migration data capacities and data infrastructures. The Commission endorsed the need for a global migration data capacity-building programme to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Global Compact for Migration.

IOM’s GMDAC Director Frank Laczko presented the latest features on the Migration Data Portal and GMDAC’s capacity building activities, during a side-event organized by IOM on 5 March.

The UNSC brings together senior officials working on statistics and data from UN Member States. The Commission consists of 24 member countries, elected by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on the basis of an equitable geographical distribution.
