Friederike Römer studied sociology at University of Mannheim, Germany and at Indiana University Bloomington, USA. She has worked as a researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Centre in the Emmy Noether group “Immigration Policies in Comparison” and in the unit “Inequality and Social Policy”.

For her dissertation she collected original data on immigrant welfare rights and tests hypotheses on determinants and effects of said rights. She will defend her dissertation at Humboldt University in summer 2017. Friederike's research interests are how migration and the welfare state interact, with a focus on the welfare rights of immigrants.
