IOM´s GMDAC director Frank Laczko and Missing Migrants Project Coordinator Julia Black participate in IOM´s workshop “Migrant Fatalities, Identification and Data 2017” hosted at the University of Texas, El Paso, USA from 10-12 May 2017.

The IOM workshop “Migrant Fatalities, Identification and Data 2017” addresses the data, identification and policy challenges resulting from deaths during migration. Bringing together key actors from international agencies and organisations, non-governmental organisations and academia, the workshop will examine how to improve the collection, management and exchange of data between relevant actors. This is needed to facilitate identification of deceased migrants and the development of policies and good practices.
The workshop serves to bring together contributors to the third volume of IOM’s annual Fatal Journeys report, and aims to identify key areas of improvement and improve collaboration across sectors on the issue of missing migrants.
