GMDAC Director Frank Laczko at UN World Data Forum in Cape Town

The inaugural United Nations World Data Forum, took place on 15-18 January 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa. More than 300 speakers from across the global data community presented ongoing and innovative approaches to producing data and statistics with a view to sustainable development goals.

Over 1,000 data experts from more than 100 countries joined the Forum, including from national statistical offices, data scientists from the private sector and academia, international organizations, and civil society groups, as well as political leaders and sustainable development advocates.

Frank Laczko, Director of IOM´s GMDAC, participated in the panel “Recent initiatives to improve capacity on migration and refugee statistics”. In his presentation Dr. Laczko showcased GMDAC´s approach to capacity-building in developing countries, which includes the development of training and guidance tools on migration data collection, analysis and reporting, both at the national and regional level
