Carla Rojas Paz (Migration Data Editor, IOM’s GMDAC) participated in a conference on migration data analysis centers in Warsaw, Poland, on 19 November. The conference aimed to inform the Polish government’s efforts in establishing the “Migration Analytical Center” under the Office of Foreign Affairs.

Ms. Rojas Paz presented the Global Migration Data Portal as a best practice and participated on a panel discussion about the role of the analytical centres in managing migration.

Most of the conference’s participants represented various Polish government ministries, but also included participants from the OECD, International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Frontex, European Asylum Support Office (EASO), local NGOs and IOM Poland.

The Migration Analytical Center will be based in Poland, and it will serve the migration data needs of the Visegrad Group countries (Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia). Its key activities will include: the creation of a migration expert network; improvement and expansion of an IT system to exchange data; migration data trainings and data analysis. The Centre will be formally established in 2019.
