Border deaths and migration policies: State and non-state approaches

IOM’s GMDAC, Médecins Sans Frontières and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions, and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam organized an international conference on migrant deaths and disappearances in Amsterdam on 14-15 June.
Frank Laczko, Director of IOM’s GMDAC, spoke during the plenary sessions, highlighting the importance of considering the needs of the thousands of families searching for missing migrant relatives. Julia Black, Missing Migrants Project Coordinator, chaired a workshop on the issues surrounding the management and identification of migrant bodies.
